Admission Requirement for B.Sc Computer Science

• O’ Level requirement: Candidates must acquire credits in the following O’Level subjects:

• English Language

• Mathematics

• Physics

• Chemistry

• And any other two science-based subjects

• Candidate must score a minimum of 180 in UTME in the following combination:

• English Language

• Mathematics

• Physics

• Chemistry

• For IJMB the candidate should pass with the following combination of subjects:

• English Language

• Mathematics

• Physics

• Chemistry

• For DE candidates, they need a Diploma in Computer Science

Admission Requirement for Postgraduate Programmes

1. Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS)

Admission Requirement:

i. A good honors degree (i.e. minimum of Third class) with the CGPA of at least 2.50 on the scale of 0.00 - 4.00 points, in any computing related field not restricted to Computer Science, InformationTechnology, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering from Bayero University, Kano or any other university recognized by the Senate of Bayero University, Kano; with credits in Mathematics, English and any other three (3) physical science or social science subject in their O. Level.

ii. Higher National Diploma (HND) with the minimum result of Merit in any computing field not restricted to Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering from any polytechnic recognized by the senate of Bayero University, Kano; with credits in Mathematics, English and any other 3 physical or social science subject in their O. Level.

Note: In addition, to the above requirements the candidates may be required to attend the departmental screening exercises and all candidates are required to have a lap-top computer system

2. M.Sc. Computer Science

Admission Requirement:

Applicants for MSc Computer Science program are required to possess one of the following:

i. A good honors degree with the minimum CGPA of at least 3.5 on the scale of 0.00 - 5.00 points, in any computing related field not restricted to Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering from Bayero University, Kano or any other university recognized by the Senate of Bayero University, Kano; with credits Mathematics, English and any other 3 science or social science subject in their O. Level; OR

ii. A good honors degree (i.e. minimum of 2:1) with a CGPA of at least 3.00 on the scale of 0.00 - 4.00 points in B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Engineering; OR

iii. Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS), Information Technology or Masters in any IT related field, with the minimum CGPA of at least 3.5 on the scale of 0.00 - 5.00 points. Applicant should have credits Mathematics, English and any other 3 sciences or social science subject in their O Level.

Note: In addition, to the above requirements the candidates may be required to attend the departmental screening exercises and all candidates are required to have a lap-top computer system.

3. Professional masters in Computer Applications (MCA)

Admission Requirement: Applicants for the professional masters in computer applications programme are required to possesses the following:

i. Satisfy the entry requirements of B.Sc. Computer Science degree;

ii. Honours degree with the CGPA of at least 2.40 on the scale of 0.00 – 5.00 points, in any computing related field not restricted to Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics from Bayero University Kano or any other university recognized by the Senate of Bayero University Kano; OR

iv. Honours degree or HND in any other area plus Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS) or Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) with CGPA of at least 2.40 on the scale of 0.00 – 5.00 points.

v. Any other condition(s) as stipulated in the University PG Guidelines

Note: In addition, to the above requirements the candidates may be required to attend the departmental screening exercises.

4. Ph.D Computer Science

Admission Requirements for PhD. in Computer Science:

A candidate who seeks admission into the degree of the Doctor of Philosophy Programme must hold an academic Master’s degree in any computing field from Bayero University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Bayero University, Kano and satisfy the following conditions:

i. Satisfy the conditions stated above in admission requirements for Msc. Computer Science. The CGPA of the Masters Programme should be at least 3.50 on a scale of 0.00 to 5.00.

ii. MPhil from Bayero University, Kano or any other recognized University with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 provided that conditions in admission requirements for Msc. Computer Science above are satisfied.

iii. Any other qualification deemed equivalent to (i) or (ii) above provided that conditions stated in admission requirements for Msc. Computer Science is satisfied.

iv. Obtain approval from two potential supervisors who are staff in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, BUK.

In addition, each application for the degree of Ph.D. in Computer Science must be accompanied by a research proposal outlining the proposed research to be undertaken by the candidate
